unters Rest was once the hunting lodge of the illustrious Rex family. George Wellington, the grandson of George Rex, settled here permanently and established a citrus farm. He was a close friend of Paul Kruger who conferred ownership on him in 1891.

The original deed hangs in the reception and George Wellington and his wife Georgina are buried in a small cemetery on the property. The remains of many forts from the Anglo-Boer war litter the hills behind the hotel and can be reached by a short hike.

The Hotel conducts organised game drives into the nature reserve behind the Hotel. The scenery and Fauna and Flora are quite spectacular with the magic of the Magaliesberg something worth experiencing!

There is an admirable abundance of bird life on the property and the colony of white-fronted bee-eaters is of particular interest.
